Happy, or not so happy Halloween.

Actually to be fair, I made a list of pro’s and cons - and in the spirit (see what I did there - a little pun) of staying positive, I’ll start with the pro’s.

Things I like:

1. Dressing up and some well thought out costumes for both kids and parents. My ultimate fave is the family costume where everyone gets on board the theme dressing.
2. Neighbourhoods banding together to work out Halloween trails for the kids (because here in Australia - not everyone is Halloween friendly).

3. The houses (or people that live in them) that go to the effort of making stand out displays. I know this costs money and time and not everyone can do this, but witches hat’s off the the effort and creativity that goes in to those displays.

Things I dislike:

1. Orange. Seriously there are some cute shades of this citrusy hue (when muted down) that I can tolerate, but the bright, gaudy, borderline hideous orange that infiltrates most Halloween decor is intolerable to me. Orange - in my book at least, should be a highlight, rather than a feature.

2. The fake spider webs that people just half-hazardly spread across bushes and trees. They are both bad for the environment and the bees and birds that get caught in them. And they just don’t look good.

3. The fact that we teach our kids to stay away from strangers, and lollies that they may entice them with, yet on this one day it is a free for all and ask any stranger for candy, that’s fine.

In fact, as far as the seasons go, I’ll take Winter and being cold over the spooky, scary, and very orange, some what trashy decorations that adorn the some of the homes in our streets. (Note to self - that gives me an idea for a whole other blog post on favourite seasons).

For now, Bring on the next season - which for my US followers would be Thanksgiving, and here in Australia we move straight onto Christmas and the holiday season with a touch of summer thrown in.

Anyway....Happy Halloween to all the fans.
